Welcome to The Official Coke Soccer Rules page. On this page
you can read the rules of coke soccer as well as some handy
hints about gameplay.
The Ball
- 350ml bottles are preferable because they travel further
with one kick and have better aerodynamics. Also they're cheaper.
- If a 350ml bottle is available it must be used instead of
a 600ml
- If the cap falls off the ball during gameplay, no goals
count until the cap is back on - this is to keep the ball
from being squashed.
- No standing on the ball on purpose - this is to keep the
ball from being squashed.
- Squashed balls should be replaced if possible - if they
are dented they don't work properly.
Outs
- A ball is 'out' if it passes the little wooden border under
the trellis, if it gets kicked into the planter or kicked
into the garden. If the ball is kicked onto the concrete under
the changing block's roof an out is usually taken.
- If the ball gets kicked out under the trellis it is taken
by the closest person to it unless someone actually wants
to enforce the 'whatever team kicks it out doesn't get the
out' rule.
- If the coke bottle is really close to either goal, the person
whose team is in that goal gets to take it.
- The out can be taken by drop-kicking it, putting it on the
ground and kicking it or by throwing it in any way - but not
against the opposite team's goal.
Goals
- Somebody scores a goal when they kick the ball against the
wall.
- On the side closest to the pavilion the goal starts from
the white part of the wall just inside the red painted bit
that sticks out from the door surrounds. On sunny days, the
goal extends to the right edge of the shadow of the trellis
post. On cloudy days, the goal extends in a 10-20cm area around
the trellis post.
- On the side closest to the changing rooms, the goal is the
entire white wall, apart from if the ball hits the corner
(only the actual edge).
- When a goal is scored against a team, they have to kick
the coke bottle before the other team can score again. If
the other team does score again then one point gets taken
off their score.
- After a goal is scored, the team that has been scored against
takes the kick from around their goal - not from the middle.
- If a ball is over waist height, it is too high to be counted.
- If one team scores against the other and the ball rolls
back over the halfway mark (the drain cover) without the team
that was scored against touching it, then anyone can touch
it.
Bonus Points
- Two points gets given to the team closest to the pavilion
if they kick the ball against the first big post under the
changing room's roof and they make it ring.
- Three points gets given to the team closest to the changing
rooms if they kick the ball against the drainpipe under the
pavilion roof and they make it ring. They get one more point
than the other team because this pole is much harder to ring.
Hand Balls
- These are not really counted unless the person picks up
or holds the ball.
Fouls
- Any reasonable punishment for fouling can be decided on
the day.
- Kicking people when they don't have the ball is a foul.
- Kicking people on purpose is a foul.
- Pushing anyone is a foul.
- Tripping anyone on purpose is a foul.
- Kicking the ball against someone really hard is not a foul
but it should be avoided.
Hazards
- Some hazards on the playing field are:
- The drain cover is very, very slippery.
- Two puddles always form to the right of the changing rooms
on the bricks.
- A deep puddle sometimes forms around the drain hole cover.
- Some bricks are higher than others - sometimes the ball
can bounce right back at you.
Teams
- When playing coke soccer, there doesn't need to be a designated
goal keeper.
- Teams can be almost any number, but it's best to keep them
under 5 - the playing field isn't very big.
- If there's one person in one team and two people in another
and the one person team is doing very badly, their score should
be doubled at the end.
After the game
- After the game these things have to be done:
- Rubbish needs to be cleaned up otherwise we loose the privilege
of playing in that area.
- Any coke bottles should be stored in a safe place - the
current favorite place is to lift up the drain cover and stick
it inside. This means that the teachers can't see them and
the wind can't blow them away.
